How much home can you actually afford? 🏡🤔

Let’s break down the 28% / 36% rule — the simplest way to estimate your budget.

Here’s how it works:

28% Rule
Your monthly housing payment (mortgage, taxes, insurance) should stay at or below 28% of your gross monthly income.

36% Rule
Your total monthly debts (housing + car, credit cards, student loans, etc.) should stay at or below 36% of your gross monthly income.

Quick example:
If you make $7,000/month…
• 28% rule → aim for a housing payment around $1,960
• 36% rule → all debts combined should be around $2,520

💡 Why it matters:
These guidelines help you stay comfortable, avoid being “house poor,” and make sure you qualify smoothly with lenders.
